{"id":2756,"date":"2025-05-13T16:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T16:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/?p=2756"},"modified":"2025-05-14T17:25:43","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T17:25:43","slug":"looking-back-on-the-friends-of-ihes-events-in-san-francisco-and-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/index.php\/2025\/05\/13\/looking-back-on-the-friends-of-ihes-events-in-san-francisco-and-new-york\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking Back on the Friends of IHES Events in San Francisco and New York"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><p align=\"justify\">During the week of April 28, Friends of IHES held two events in San Francisco and New York City, in the presence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/professeur\/emmanuel-ullmo-2\/\">Emmanuel Ullmo<\/a>, Director of IHES, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/claire-lenz\/\">Claire Lenz<\/a>, Director of Communications and Development, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/richard-kruel\/\">Richard Kruel<\/a>, Deputy Director of Communications and Development.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p align=\"justify\">On April 29, French Consul General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/florian-cardinaux-b6128645\/\">Florian Cardinaux<\/a> hosted Friends of IHES at his Residence for an evening focused on artificial intelligence in the sciences, with <a href=\"https:\/\/cdss.berkeley.edu\/people\/jennifer-chayes\">Jennifer Chayes<\/a>, Dean of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society at the University of California, Berkeley, and a former visitor of IHES, as keynote speaker.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p align=\"justify\">In her talk, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/index.php\/2025\/02\/07\/artificial-intelligence-the-shifting-intellectual-landscape\/\">Artificial Intelligence &amp; the Shifting Intellectual Landscape<\/a>\u201d, Dr. Chayes demonstrated, through her own research, how AI is accelerating and radically transforming the way science is conducted at the intersection of mathematics, chemistry, and materials science.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1746057922388-1-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1746057922388-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1746057922388-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1746057922388-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1746057922388-1.jpeg 1172w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jennifer Chayes &amp; Emmanuel Ullmo during the Q&amp;A Session<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><p align=\"justify\">Organized at the initiative of Friends of IHES Board Member and Google DeepMind executive <a href=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/index.php\/2024\/08\/06\/eugenie-rives-joins-the-friends-of-ihes-board-of-directors\/\">Eug\u00e9nie Rives<\/a>, and IHES supporters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nathaliebontoux\/\">Nathalie Bontoux<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/c%C3%A9dric-hutchings-88699a\/\">C\u00e9dric Hutchings<\/a>, the event brought together more than 70 participants.
