As a young graduate student well along in her math Ph.D. program at M.I.T. and working as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard, Gioia De Cari decided to leave the field entirely, promising herself she would never speak about math again. She eventually forged a new path for herself in the arts, in which she has worked professionally for over 20 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the way, her experiences as a woman in the male-dominated world of mathematics and the never-ending controversies about women in STEM in the news led her to write <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.truthvalues.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Truth Values<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, a critically-acclaimed award-winning play, which had its genesis as a writing and performance exercise in the New York studio of the late legendary theater director\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.nytimes.com_2020_04_14_theater_wynn-2Dhandman-2Ddead-2Dcoronavirus.html&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=qgVugHHq3rzouXkEXdxBNQ&amp;r=_TxZTcGwt_zFk6BbPeEK85Yzodw0IMz8snAJp_NcYmQ&amp;m=B2zzHWwwfecNrXx8jMXE9mUstNuLrlHII8cgrJBX61k&amp;s=FoHIuF5OXOWaUT1Air9y_2k6npsOZlePYMPxNHns0C8&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\">Wynn Handman<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/truthvalues.org\/\">Truth Values<\/a><\/em> has been embraced nationally as a conversation catalyst on diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), having been presented at over 50 theaters with more than 75 expert panel discussions on this topic. A companion educational program to the play, <a href=\"https:\/\/truthvaluescommunity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth Values Community<\/a>, was sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Alfred P.
