Prince Albert II of Monaco came to the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques, along with Patrice Cellario, the Principality of Monaco\u2019s Minister of Interior.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After having been formally greeted by Marwan Lahoud, President of IHES, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/professeur\/emmanuel-ullmo-2\/\">Emmanuel Ullmo<\/a>, Director of IHES, Alexander Grimaud, Sub-prefect of the district of Palaiseau and Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Vigier, Mayor of Bures-sur-Yvette, they met three junior researchers currently at the Institute:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"543\" height=\"362\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofihes.ihes.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8460_Web.jpg\" alt=\"Visit of HSH Albert II of Monaco, June 11 2021, IHES\" class=\"wp-image-1615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8460_Web.jpg 543w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8460_Web-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Veronica Fantini, an Italian mathematician specializing in geometry and mathematical physics, is currently a visitor at IHES, where she will start a post-doc in September;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/~nikiforovavas\/\">Vasilisa Nikiforova<\/a>, a Russian post-doc in theoretical physics;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocf.berkeley.edu\/~atakeda\/\">Alex Takeda<\/a>, a Brazilian post-doc working on topics related to algebraic geometry and mathematical physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"543\" height=\"362\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofihes.ihes.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8484_Web.jpg\" alt=\"Visit of HSH Albert II of Monaco, June 11 2021, IHES\" class=\"wp-image-1614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8484_Web.jpg 543w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8484_Web-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the main scientific building of the Institute, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco was then able to discuss with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/professeur\/fanny-kassel-2\/\">Fanny Kassel<\/a>, mathematician, a CNRS researcher based at IHES, and one of her PhD students, Balthazar Fl\u00e9chelles. The Institute is thus part of a larger mathematical and scientific community: a founding member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universite-paris-saclay.fr\/en\">Universit\u00e9 Paris-Saclay<\/a>, it works closely with several partners, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnrs.fr\/en\">CNRS<\/a> (the French National Research Center).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"543\" height=\"362\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofihes.ihes.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8522_Web.jpg\" alt=\"Visit of HSH Albert II of Monaco, June 11 2021, IHES\" class=\"wp-image-1613\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8522_Web.jpg 543w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8522_Web-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Patrice Cellario also visited the IHES library, where they were able to greet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/professeur\/david-ruelle-2\/\">David Ruelle<\/a>, a physicist and permanent professor until 2000 and now professor emeritus at IHES, winner of the Albert 1er de Monaco prize in 1979, awarded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academie-sciences.fr\/en\/\">Academy of Sciences<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"543\" height=\"362\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofihes.ihes.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8596_Web.jpg\" alt=\"Visit of HSH Albert II of Monaco, June 11 2021, IHES\" class=\"wp-image-1612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8596_Web.jpg 543w, https:\/\/friendsofihes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_8596_Web-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, before going to lunch, they met <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.universite-paris-saclay.fr\/~illusie\/\">Luc Illusie<\/a>, a mathematician specializing in algebraic geometry, who was on site for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/conference-on-arithmetic-geometry-in-honor-of-luc-illusie\/\">conference organized in his honor<\/a> on the occasion of his 80th birthday (81st in fact due to the pandemic!) from 8 to 11 June. Luc Illusie is a precious and faithful member of the Institute\u2019s community: he attended the famous A. Grothendieck\u2019s Seminar during IHES\u2019 first years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After having had lunch at the Institute\u2019s cafeteria, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Patrice Cellario went to the Marilyn and James Simons Conference Center, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihes.fr\/en\/professeur\/thibault-damour-2\/\">Thibault Damour<\/a>, a physicist and permanent professor at IHES, gave a talk on gravitational waves. A good opportunity to get a sense of the scientific progress made since Albert Einstein\u2019s first scientific work on this topic, with the most recent observational breakthroughs and their theoretical basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday 11 June 2021, H.S.H.
