Friends of IHES is delighted to welcome Amal Moussa to its Board of Directors, which she officially joined on July 1, 2025.
Dr. Moussa is a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in New York, where she leads the Single Stocks Exotic Derivatives Trading desk. Alongside her work in finance, she shares her expertise as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, teaching in the Mathematics of Finance and Financial Engineering master’s programs. She also serves on the advisory board of Columbia’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Business Analytics and Financial Technology.
Passionate about mentoring, Amal dedicates time to supporting young students and professionals across the financial industry. She is also a board member of the Columbia Alumni Association.
Amal began her academic journey in France, completing the Classes Préparatoires in Mathematics and Physics at Lycée Pierre de Fermat in Toulouse. She went on to earn a Grande École engineering degree in Computer Science from Télécom Paris, followed by a master’s degree in mathematics from Sorbonne Université, where she specialized in Probability and Finance.
Her interest in financial mathematics eventually brought her to the United States, where she earned a PhD in Statistics at Columbia University under the supervision of Rama Cont, who introduced her to Friends of IHES in 2023.
Since then, Amal has become an active member of the Friends of IHES community. She attended the 2023 Gala in New York and participated in events like Hugo Duminil-Copin’s keynote lecture at the French Consulate and the celebration of Friends of IHES’ 25th Anniversary in 2024. She is also among the Sponsors of the 2025 Gala on Cinema & Mathematics.
Through her involvement with Friends of IHES, Amal aims to support scientific excellence in mathematics and theoretical physics while fostering Franco-American cooperation, two causes particularly close to her heart given her personal, academic, and professional journey.
